This is our story


The Hope Makers Organization for Woman (HMOW) is a local organization located in Iraq. Established in 2018, after the ISIS invasion to Sinjar Area, the purpose of HMOW is to provide support to Yazidi women survivors of the conflict and Yezidi women and girls. The executive director of HMOW, Dr. Nagham, has been working since 2014 to ensure these survivors are able to access gynecology services, as well as receive psychological support and treatments. Dr. Nagham has worked tirelessly to ensure the Yazidi women survivors have access to the support they need, and she is well-known for her commitment to this cause. She has been recognized for her work by many international organisations, UN agencies, department of state of US, ministry of foreign affairs of France and Germany, and over 1200 cases of survivors have been followed by Dr. Nagham, where her dedication and commitment to helping Yazidi women is a testament to her passion and determination. Dr. Nagham has received a number of awards for her work in helping Yazidi women survivors, including:

- In March 2016, Dr. Nagham was awarded by the United States Department of State as one of the International Women of Courage.

- The winner of the Silver Rose Prize from the Brussels-based organisation for her efforts on survivors in June 2016.

- In May 2018, Dr. Nagham was the winner of the Physician of Human Rights Award from the Network of Human Rights Physicians.

- In December 2020, she was one of the winners of the Franco-German Prize from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France and Germany.

- In late 2022, she was one of the winners of the Marian Human Rights Program, which was launched by French President Macron.

- In October 2022, she was also the winner of the Nansen Prize for MENA from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Dr. Nagham's work in helping Yazidi women survivors is a testament to her commitment and dedication to the cause. Her awards are a well-deserved recognition of her hard work, and she is an inspiration to many. The awards she has received are a testament to her courage and determination, and a reminder of the importance of the work she and HMOW are doing.

Hope Makers Organization for Woman is Registered at Baghdad on the NGO Office/ General Secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, in 2018, and has been registered at the NGO Office for Kurdistan regional government number in 2018.

Our Vision

HMOW's vision is to create a safe community for Yezidi women and girls, to combat gender-based violence and discrimination against Yezidi women and girls by creating an environment where they are supported and respected. HMOW strive to create an environment where Yezidi women are empowered to be their own advocates and agents of change.

Mission Statement

The mission of HMOW is to create a world where Yezidi women and girls are safe, respected, and valued. With a commitment to this goal, the organization will continue to work to raise awareness and knowledge about gender-based violence, and create a future where gender equality is a reality.
